Abbotsford

A new Abbotsford-wide poll released today found the city's voters are predominantly opposed to bringing slot-machines into town.

A total of 46 percent of those surveyed said they are opposed to slot-machines being installed in Abbotsford, while 29 percent said they are in favor, and 24 percent are undecided.

In response to the question “Do you think city council should accept the proposal to install up to 125 slot machines in the bingo hall, or reject it?” some 49 percent said city council should reject it, while 40 percent said they should accept it, and 10 percent were undecided.

When asked “Have you heard of a proposal to install up to 125 slot machines in the Abbotsford bingo hall?” some 73% of those surveyed said Yes.

Abbotsford city council is considering a proposal to bring slot machines and VLT’s into the city.

88 percent of those surveyed said they plan to vote in next year’s Abbotsford municipal election.

54 percent said city council’s decision on the slot-machine issue could affect how they vote in next year’s election.

“The results of this poll are clear: the families of Abbotsford have firmly said “NO” to slot-machines in our city,” said Trish Kolsto, president of Abbotsford Families United.

Abbotsford city council says they may be voting on this issue on October 1st.

The independent telephone poll of 300 voters in Abbotsford was conducted September 21st – 24th by Winnipeg-based NRG Research Group, a leading North American public opinion company. It has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 5.6 percentage points. The poll was paid for by Abbotsford Families United.
